For the first time ever, the Pride flag will fly for every single municipality in Oxford County.
OXFORD COUNTY - Oxford County will be full of rainbows today.
Oxford County Pride will be holding nine Pride Flag raising ceremonies today before Pride Month officially begins tomorrow. President Tami Murray says they're making history this year because a Pride Flag will be in every Oxford County municipality.
"The first time ever throughout the County! So we're very excited. In fact, nine years ago was the first time we ever had a Pride flag risen in Oxford County period!"
The first ceremony will take place at the Oxford County Administration Building at 8:00 a.m. before they head to Woodstock's Museum Square at 8:30 a.m. The next flag raisings will take place at the Blandford-Blenheim Township building at 9:30 a.m. and the East Zorra-Tavistock Township office at 10:30 a.m.
Zorra Township will be raising its flag at its new municipal office on Brock Street in Thamesford at 11:30 a.m.
Ingersoll will host its flag raising in Dewan Park at 12:00 p.m. and South-West Oxford will have its flag on display in their Township office at 2:00 p.m. until they have a flag pole installed.
Tillsonburg will have its flag-raising ceremony at the Broadway Parkette with a 3:00 p.m. start time and Norwich Township will use the newly installed community flag pole at the Norwich Community Centre to raise its flag at 4:00 p.m.
The Woodstock Fire Department and the Fanshawe College Campus in Woodstock will host their flag-raising ceremonies on Monday.
Murray says Oxford County Pride has grown significantly since 2015, with over 150 local business sponsors.
"This is really about community and unity. That is where I see our growth because people are really focusing on inclusion and focusing on progress instead of regress."
You can find more information about the flag raisings and the upcoming Pride Month events on the Oxford County Pride website and Facebook page.
