Pride Month will officially begin in Oxford County today with flag raising ceremonies in Woodstock, Tillsonburg and Ingersoll.
OXFORD COUNTY - Oxford County is celebrating Pride Month by promoting inclusion, diversity, and equity for all residents.
The Oxford County Pride Committee is kicking off the festivities with the annual raising of the rainbow progress pride flag.
Ceremonies will be taking place in at Museum Square in Woodstock and at the South Broadway Parkette in Ingersoll at 9:00 a.m. this morning. Ingersoll will be hosting it's ceremony at Dewen Park starting at 12:00 p.m.
They will be raising the progress flag, which is the name of the new version of the pride flag. It includes chevrons to represent the transgender community colours, which are pink and blue. It also includes brown and black chevrons to represent people of colour.
Several progress flags were reported stolen in Norwich over the long weekend. Tami Murray, the Chairperson of the Oxford County Pride Committee, would like to thank everyone who has stepped up to show their support since then.
"I want to applaud Oxford County. We have received amazing emails and support, we have received through donations of close to $1,000 to replace the banners in Norwich, Ontario that got damaged."
There will be a variety of activities throughout the month to celebrate the 2SLBGTQAI+ community and its allies.
The committee will be hosting several Drag Storytime events on Saturday, June 4th. They will be at the Ingersoll Public Library at 11:00 a.m., the Tillsonburg Public Library at 2:00 p.m. and the Woodstock Public Library at 11:00 a.m.
The committee will also be hosting it's popular Family Day on Saturday June 18th from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Museum Square. The after party for adults over the age of 19 will be held at the Upper Thames Brewing Company in Woodstock starting at 8:00 p.m. Both events will follow a 90s theme.
Tami Murray stopped by the Heart FM studio yesterday morning to chat with Dan and Marcie and you can listen to the full interview below.
