WOODSTOCK - A Woodstock man plans to run 898 km from Tobermory to Niagara to raise funds for the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
Brett Opthof was born with a heart defect and has spent the last several years in and out of the hospital. An avid runner, he is looking forward to completing this journey to raise money and awareness.
"It kind of dawned on me after my series of strokes that I had in October, so I have been on both sides of the situation for Heart and Stroke, so I started thinking about what can I do to raise awareness."
Opthof hopes to take this journey at the end of August or early September. He has 16 days to get the trip done, however he thinks he can do it in 10.
"I have a 16 day window of being off from work but I have scheduled that I should be able to do it in about 10 to 11 days."
Opthof will have a team travelling with him as he does the run and is hoping to raise some awareness for his journey now.
