Hundreds of people participated in the first ever Running With the Bulls in Tillsonburg on Saturday.
TILLSONBURG - The first annual Running with the Bulls in Tillsonburg was a huge success!
Director Tamara Bull says hundreds of runners participated on the Trans Canada Trail this past Saturday.
"We had 222 runners registered to actually do the event, but we had easily over 300 participating because on the 1K kiddie trot a lot of parents registered their kids but not themselves. So there were hundreds there and it was amazing!"
She would like to give a special shout-out to Tom Elliott from Brantford, who decided to take on the 10K at 88-years-old.
"He asked if he could start it a little bit early because he's a bit slower and I made sure we had everybody on the trail who was talkable cheer him on by name. I can only hope that when I am 88 I can even walk 1K, let alone do 10K!"
The run has raised over $15,000 and counting, with a professional photographer still selling photos from the event. Bull says all of the money will be going to local families who are experiencing financial struggles related to a cancer diagnosis.
"Someone did apply and say they can't afford hearing aids as a result of the cost going in, so I can help out with that. Another person who absolutely loves to run said running in races is not in the budget when they have these expenses, so I can allow them to run another race."
All of the money will be distributed in the next 12 months, before next year's event on Saturday July 19th, 2025. You can find the funding application form online here.
Bull would like to thank everyone who helped make this event possible.
