Oxford County Council are slated to decide the fate of garbage and recycling collection Wednesday morning.
OXFORD COUNTY - Oxford County residents could be moving to a six day garbage collection cycle with co-collection of recycling later this year.
Council will make a decision on the staff recommendation Wednesday morning.
Warden David Mayberry says council needs to balance the need of the community with good fiscal and environmental concerns.
Mayberry says based on the staff recommendation, recycling collection would increase from the current 26 picks per year to 42 and the number of garbage pick ups decreased from 52 to 42.
"I think that people are going to see the big benefit in recycling. In fact, when I think back over the years, the biggest complaint I have received in Southwest Oxford has always been, we want more recycling, so if we give more recycling, can be give less garbage service."
"The big issue will be around people getting used to the idea that my garbage day changes. As was pointed out by one of the councillors at the last meeting -- well if the garbage day changes and I put it out, I will only put it out a day early rather than a day late which I suppose is one way of looking at it."
Mayberry says he personally hasn't received a single comment about garbage collection from the public.
Mayberry says council will have the opportunity to select other collection options Wednesday morning should they not agree with the staff recommendation.
The meeting gets underway at 9:30 am in County Council Chambers.
