Oxford County Council has voted in favour of turning Operation Sharing's The Inn homeless shelter into a 24/7 operation.
WOODSTOCK - The Inn, Oxford County's only homeless shelter is going to expand to include more beds, more services and become a 24/7 shelter.
Oxford County Council voted to make the shelter 24/7 at their most recent council meeting. Warden Larry Martin says they don't have a date yet as to when the project will be finished.
"Wheels are in motion, we are doing what we can and we are trying to get it up and running just as soon as we possibly can, I can't imagine spending days like today outside."
Operation Sharing will continue to operate the shelter at Old St. Paul's Church in Woodstock. The new 24/7 shelter will have a staff support role allocated by the County and overnight security services.
The Inn just recently expanded it's bed capacity to 25 thanks to $100,000 from the County. That money was also used to increase the lounge centre and make the space bigger to accommodate more beds, while also meeting SWPH guidelines. The shelter previously had 20 beds and that was reduced to 12 due to spacing issues with COVID-19.
Heart FM will be reaching out to Acting Executive Director Shawn Shapton for more details on what the 24/7 shelter will look like in the coming days and will be providing more updates on this story.
