Toyota Fined

The company fined after a worker fractured their arm in October of 2013

WOODSTOCK - A 65 thousand dollar fine has been handed down to Toyota following a workplace accident in October of 2013.

According to officials, a worker on an instrument panel line noticed part of the line was running slow and tried to avoid stalling or a shut down by reaching under the line in hopes of reaching the re-set button.

That's when the worker got their arm trapped causing several fractures which required surgery.

Toyota pleaded guilty to failing, as an employer, to ensure that the measures and procedures prescribed by the Occupational Health and Safety Act were carried out. In addition to the fine, the court imposed a 25-per-cent victim fine surcharge as required by the Provincial Offences Act.
