OPP say the quick actions of a transport truck driver hauling 45,000 litre's of fuel, likely saved three lives today after a crash on Highway 3.
NORFOLK COUNTY - The OPP are thanking a truck driver today, whose quick actions likely saved three lives after a crash on Highway 3 at Simcoe Street near Tillsonburg.
Constable Ed Sanchuk says the truck was hauling 45,000 litres of fuel when an SUV pulled out in front of him.
"The transport truck driver did an amazing job, he tried to steer away, however he did make contact with that vehicle, because of his actions, he ultimately saved the driver and passenger in that SUV and I just want to take the opportunity to thank that man personally because we have seen way to many fatal collisions on our roadways, we have a ton of professional truck drivers on our roadways and here is another professional truck driver who just saved two lives."
The crash happened this afternoon and no serious injuries have been reported, however the SUV is likely totalled. Sanchuk says the transport driver was alert and it saved a life. He does this advice to all drivers.
"We are putting out a reminder to everyone on our roadways, when you come up to a stop sign or an intersection, take those two extra seconds, because it can make the difference between being involved in a collision or not."
Highway 3 between Simcoe and Delhi will be closed for the next hour to allow for a cleanup.
