Border closure extended to August 21st
You won't be able to drive to the States just yet.
The U.S. is extending its current land border closure until August 21st.
Public Safety Minister Bill Blair says he received the news from the U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security.
The border restriction has been in place since March 2020, and only allows essential travel.
This comes after Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced plans to allow fully vaccinated Americans into Canada starting August 9th.
Canadians can travel by plane to the U.S., but need to submit a negative COVID-19 test three days before leaving or show proof from a doctor that they have recovered from the virus in the last 90 days.
