The tool kits from WITAAR contained several items including pencils, card stock, sticky notes and dry erase markers.
OXFORD COUNTY - The first-ever Realtors Care Teacher Supply Drive was a huge success.
Up to 77 teachers from across Oxford County signed up for the program before September 13th. That's when members of the Woodstock, Ingersoll, Tillsonburg and Area Association of Realtors (WITAAR) set out to buy supplies for them.
They bought several supplies to create free tool kits for these teachers. They contained Kleenex, laminating pockets, construction paper, card stock, scissors, glue sticks, sticky notes, pencils, erasers, markers, pencil crayons, crayons, highlighters, watercolour paints, glue, stickers and a large pack of EXPO dry erase markers.
WITAAR President Alison Porter says the teachers had to stop by the Fusion Youth Centre in Ingersoll to pick up their tool kit Tuesday night.
“It was a great night. So many grateful teachers, feeling like it was Christmas, or they won the lottery!”
She says teachers dedicate their lives to educating children, so the real estate board wanted to show its support.
"We as Realtors are parents with kids in school, parents of teachers, grandparents of school children, our clients have children and are teachers themselves. We all know the need is great. Many classroom supplies come from the teacher's pockets, as their budgets are minimal. The teachers buy supplies, snacks, art supplies, books etc. or the classrooms go without. We can make a difference."
Porter adds the Realtors Care Teacher Supply Drive will be back next year.
"We hope to make this an annual event with more teachers attending each year. With this being our first year, we are happy with how it turned out and are hoping it gets better each year. Thank you to all the teachers of Oxford County for what you do!”
