One of Woodstock's longest serving recreation heads gets a fitting send off.
If you learned to swim at Southside or Lions Pool at any point over the last three decades, chances are Peter Johnston had something to do with it.
Woodstock's long-time aquatics supervisor was honoured at a retirement party Saturday night.
Johnston officially retired this winter after working for more than 30 years in recreation for the city, where he oversaw daily activities and programs at Southside Aquatics Centre and Lions Pool.
Long-time co-worker Steve Eccelston said it might be hard for Johnston to walk away from his duties.
"I know he will miss the people very much so. We expect to see him at the pool all the time. I think he`s going to start swimming again because he was a champion swimmer in his youth. He was a very, very good swimmer," Eccelston said.
Family, friends and co-workers honoured Johnston's service to the community at with a retirement party at the Woodstock Navy Club.
