After waiting to find out if Woodstock is getting a new outdoor pool, the result is in.
WOODSTOCK - The City of Woodstock will not be going forward with the replacement of Lions Pool at the Cowan Fields.
Back in July 2023, council voted to go ahead with a replacement of the pool. Council revisited the topic during last Thursday’s meeting, because of the financial pressures this project would cause.
Mayor Jerry Acchione tells us about the end result of that discussion.
“Councillors moved it forward tonight to re-discuss the motion that the decision for the outdoor pool would not be going forward to Cowan Fields in the near future.”
Acchione adds it is still within reconsideration in the future, just not anytime soon.
It would cost $5,350,00 to build the new pool on Cowan Fields after decommissioning the original Lions Pool. City staff noticed some tears in the pool during an inspection and put more money into fixing it continuously.
There are still other options to cool off in Woodstock including the Southside Aquatics Centre and Splash Pad.
Final numbers have been broken down after last night’s meeting, resulting in a 7.42 percent tax levy increase.
