The Regional Review of Oxford was discussed at the last County council meeting.
ZORRA TOWNSHIP - Zorra Township looked over the Regional Review of Oxford at their most recent council meeting.
Zorra Mayor and County Councillor Marcus Ryan proposed a motion during the meeting on January 23rd stating Zorra welcomes the review, however they wanted to go on record saying they are happy with the way things are now.
"The motion basically was that Zorra understands what the provincial government is trying to do and have all government deliver it efficiently, effectively and responsibly for everybody in the province, and that we of course welcome any opportunity to talk to anyone about how we can do what we do better for the people of Zorra. Really, we felt that the best people to do this job were the residents of Zorra and Oxford County are the best to decide what solutions would be implemented and how they would be implemented."
Ryan says the big fear is that people will have the access to their government and access to democracy moved further away from them.
He says he wanted to pass the motion because it's important that everyone's voice is heard.
"If we want to be able to be effective in having a voice with the province on this review, that we express the views of the residents of Zorra and hopefully the rest of Oxford County and get the things done that we feel our residents want, not forgetting that we just had an election and had great, open discussions with all of our residents about these issues. If we want to have an effective voice in that then we have to have a discussion at council about it, a debate, and decide are we all on the same page here and if we are let's have that be our voice to the province as we go through this review."
Ryan says they are open to ideas on how to improve the community, but he doesn't see a need to become a one-tier government.
