The City of Woodstock will never ask you to use a credit card to pay for your taxes.
WOODSTOCK - The City of Woodstock warning the public about a scam making the rounds.
According to a post on the City's social media pages, a fraudster has been calling people pretending that they work for the city. They tell the victim that they have to pay outstanding taxes and ask for their credit card information.
The City does not accept credit cards when it comes to paying for taxes. If you get a call like this, you should hang up and call the City to confirm your account status. You can call 519-539-2382 with extension 2304 or extension 2306.
The City also warned the public about another scam last week, where the culprit pretends to be a water heater inspector. You can read more about that online here.
Scam alert: We have been alerted by residents who have received calls from someone claiming to be from the City and asking for credit card information for outstanding taxes. We do not accept credit card payment for taxes. When in doubt, pls call us to check your account status! pic.twitter.com/XYL3mu9aUw
