UPDATE: Death Toll Rises in Norwich Township Crash

Police responded to a crash involving a transport truck and an SUV on March 31st.

UPDATE 2 (April 9th, 2025) -  Police have confirmed that the two people in the hospital with life-threatening conditions have passed away. They were 46-years-old and 21-years-old both from Tillsonburg.

OPP Sergeant Ed Sanchuk says no charges will be laid and no further details will be released.

UPDATE: Police have identified the three victims as a 39-year-old from Cambridge, a 17-year-old from Tillsonburg, and a 13-year-old from Tillsonburg. The two people they were with in the SUV remain in hospital in life-threatening condition.

The investigation remains ongoing at this time.

NORWICH TOWNSHIP - The Oxford OPP is investigating a deadly crash north of Norwich.

Officers were called out to the corner of Highway 59 and Quaker Street shortly before 3:00 p.m. today, after a transport truck collided with an SUV.

In a video posted on the OPP West Region X page, Sergeant Ed Sanchuk said there were five people in the SUV at the time.

"I'm sad to say, three of those individuals suffered serious, life-threatening injuries and were pronounced deceased on scene. A fourth individual was air-lifted by Ornge to be treated for serious, life-threatening injuries, and a fifth person was transported by ambulance to be treated for serious, life-threatening injuries."

He's sending his condolences to the victim's friends and family. He would also like to thank the good samaritans that stopped to provide assistance, adding they made a difficult situation a little bit easier.

The driver of the transport truck was not hurt in the crash.

Police have closed Highway 59 from Evergreen Street to North Street and Quaker Street from Slant Road to Middletown Line for the investigation. Sergeant Sanchuk says the closure should remain in effect for the next eight hours, so it could possibly reopen by 3:30 a.m..

No further details have been released at this time.

Sergeant Sanchuk is encouraging anyone with information to come forward.

"We are asking anyone that may have any information, dash cam footage, or any homes in the surrounding area that may have video surveillance to please check their footage and contact investigators."
