Black plastic materials and paper cups will be two additional materials being collected for residents throughout Oxford County, however you will not be able to recycle styrofoam and plastic film.
OXFORD COUNTY - The new Oxford County Waste Management program for curbside collection starts on Monday.
It is important to note that none of the changes will impact City of Woodstock residents, as their curbside collection is run by City operations on behalf of Oxford County.
The City of Woodstock’s blue box system remains a two-stream recycling program collected once every two weeks.
Director Public Works David Simpson talks about a couple of the changes you will notice.
"We have two new additional materials that we will now be able to collect, such as black plastic materials, so if you think of the black food packaging, a good example of those black plastic materials and also paper coffee cups that are typically just for single use. So through our new recycling process, they actually have access to good end markets that can manage those types of materials. As an examples, the black plastic materials can now be recycled into the manufacturing of black automotive parts."
Simpson says the the change will also mean they will have recyclable products that they will no longer be collecting.
"So things like plastic bags, plastic wrap and film packaging, as well as small styrofoam products like food take out clamshells or trays and styrofoam cups, things like that."
Pick-up days for curbside collection will change for approximately 3,000 customers in Ingersoll and Tillsonburg as a result of newly revised collection routes. Pick-up times may change along the newly revised collection routes, so all customers are reminded to make sure garbage and recycling are placed at the curb before 7 a.m. to ensure pick up.
