Indigiknow takes place on the third Monday of every month and it will help youth learn more about indigenous culture.
OXFORD COUNTY - The Ingersoll and Area Indigenous Solidarity & Awareness Network is hosting a brand-new indigenous education program in partnership with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Oxford County.
The new program is called Indigiknow. Funded by Communities Building Youth Futures Oxford County, the program will shine a light on indigenous culture for youth in the community through art, dance, music, and literature.
Patricia Marshall, a Cooperative Organizer at IISAN, says all youth are welcome.
"We are inviting all youth aged 6-16 to participate. You don't need to be indigenous to come, you just need to come with an open heart and open ears willing and ready to learn."
She added that the monthly class will shine a light on indigenous culture.
"We will be meeting on the third Monday of each month in order to explore indigeneity, which is indigenous identity, through community connection and creative exploration."
The program is set to begin on Monday at 5:30 p.m. at the Big Brothers Big Sisters office located at 58 Thames Street in Ingersoll. There will be a pizza party and cupcakes for participants.
Marshall stopped by the Heart FM studio on Tuesday March 14th, alongside Big Brothers Big Sisters of Oxford County Executive Director Kristen Ralph. You can listen to the full interview below:
