All of Oxford County's Junior C hockey teams won their home openers on Friday.
PJHL - It was a great opening weekend for the Woodstock Navy Vets
They shutout the Dorchester Dolphins 5-0 in their home opener Friday night, with over 1,500 fans cheering them on at Southwood Arena. Newcomer defenceman Braeden Tyler became a fan favourite when he scored the fifth goal of the game with just 16 seconds remaining. Domino's Pizza was on site with free pizza coupons that night and promised to hand them out to fans if the Vets scored more than five goals.
The Vets then went on to beat the Shamrocks in Hespeler 3-1 yesterday afternoon. Davin Gray scored two goals for Woodstock and Aaron Bullock also scored for the Vets.
Meanwhile, Tavistock Braves beat the New Hamburg Firebirds 9-6 in their home opener on Friday before they suffered a 5-2 loss to the Wellesley Applejacks on Saturday.
The Norwich Merchants demolished the Paris Titans 7-1 in their home opener at Nor-Del Arena Friday night.
Over in the Yeck Division, the Thamesford Trojans truly had the perfect start to the regular season. They shutout the Aylmer Spitfires 8-0 in their home opener on Friday and also shutout the Irish in Lucan 4-0 the next day.
