Author Claire Cameron will be featured at the Oxford Reads Gala on October 30th.
WOODSTOCK - Tickets are now available for the Oxford Reads Gala.
It's scheduled for Friday October 30th at Woodstock Collegiate Institute and it will feature Claire Cameron, the author of How to Survive a Bear Attack: A Memoir.
Warden Marcus Ryan will lead an intimate conversation with Cameron as she talks about her own experiences with illness, motherhood, fear and survival.
Gillian Green, Public Services Supervisor for the Woodstock Public Library, says Cameron will also take questions from the audience that evening.
"Oxford Reads is about creating opportunities for our community to engage with important stories and the authors behind them. We are excited to welcome Claire Cameron and provide readers with the chance to connect with an exceptional Canadian writer whose work inspires thoughtful discussion and a deep appreciation for the world around us."
The gala is free to attend but you have to reserve your spot through Eventbrite ahead of time.
Oxford Reads is an annual county-wide book club that's a partnership between the Oxford County Library and the Woodstock Public Library.
Sarah Adam, Systems Librarian for the Oxford County Library, says How to Survive a Bear Attack was announced as this year's Oxford Reads title back in June.
"With this year’s book, we wanted to create unique opportunities for participants to experience and explore its themes before meeting author Claire Cameron at the Gala. How to Survive a Bear Attack gives us a wonderful opportunity to take the story beyond the pages and encourage a deeper connection with the natural world - something we don’t often get to explore through other genres."
