Norwich Avenue location site of surprise community appreciation award presentation.
WOODSTOCK -- Woodstock fire department now respond to over 2000 emergency calls per year and firefighters often get a big assist on the front lines during and after calls from one local Tim Horton's location.
Woodstock Fire Chief Scott Tegler says the Norwich Avenue location has been helping out fire services in more ways than one over the years.
Recognition came in the form of a plaque on Monday -- for local Tim Horton's Owner and Operator Leslie Farrell.
"Leslie has been a supporter of our department for a long time. There are countless numbers of times over the years where she has supported us at incidents and it developed as kind of a partnership in our community. Whether it's leadership, raising funds for charitable organizations, we just wanted to take a few minutes today to recognize her support of our department and everything she does for the community.
Over a dozen fire fighters turned out Monday to honour Farrell for her contribution, which not only include keeping firefighters alert with coffee or hydrated with water on or after calls, but also for her various charitable efforts and initiatives benefiting local fire services over the years.
"Leslie is definitely not the only one in the community who shows leadership here, she just stands out with us because she's always been there -- even in the middle of the night with her staff supporting us at every incident and again with our community endeavours," Tegler said.
Monday's appreciation award came as a surprise to Farrell.
"It's just really nice, the fire department and I have a great relationship and it's just nice they came to say thank-you," Farrell said.
"They know we'll look after them. I appreciate everything they do for our community, so yeah -- it's a nice surprise."
