The Town of Ingersoll wants to know if people are in favour of backyard chickens, or if they think it's for the birds.
INGERSOLL - The Town of Ingersoll is going to host a public input meeting to see what residents think about a possible bylaw that would allow people to have backyard chickens.
Similar bylaws are in place in neighbouring municipalities and people like having the chickens for a variety of reasons, including having farm fresh eggs every day. Ingersoll Mayor Ted Comiskey tells Heart FM they want people to weigh the positives and negatives of approving a bylaw like this.
"With three hens you can have three eggs a day and certainly it is cost efficient, you can use the manure for fertilization, there are a lot of good aspects to it, but there is also some negative ones as well and that is if you don't care for these animals then bad things are going to happen and then what do you do with the dead stock and what do you do if your neighbour doesn't clean up the pens and the odour is bad."
No date has been set for a public input meeting at this time and we will provide you with more information when it becomes available.
