OXFORD COUNTY - Oxford County is looking for volunteers to sit on the Accessibility Advisory Committee.
Warden Larry Martin says the committee will help Oxford County with planning.
"They make recommendations to County Council as to how we can make things more accessible for people who are maybe not as mobile as others."
The advisory committee meets every two months at the Oxford County Administration Building in Woodstock.
Martin says some of the topics they discuss on the board have to do with accessibility issues.
"It's more accessibility as far as ramps, accessibility into the buildings and how we can make our parks a lot more accessible for those that have mobility issues."
As a member of the committee, volunteers will offer advice and recommendations to Oxford County that matter to the community relating to accessibility, along with providing input on a Multi-Year Accessibility Plan.
Other goals of the Accessibility Advisory Committee will include:
- To promote public awareness and sensitivity about accessibility issues for persons with disabilities;
- To encourage co-operation among all service and interest groups;
- To communicate with all relevant levels of government and service agencies and make recommendations on policy and legislation;
- To identify and document relevant issues and concerns;
- To create a community which provides access to housing, transportation, education, recreation and employment;
- To recognize that the needs of all persons are constantly changing, growing and in need of refinement.
Those interested can contact Chloe Senior with Oxford County at csenior@oxfordcounty.ca. The deadline is February 15th.
