Jeff Bes, Lloyd Andrews, and Dan Sanders will be inducted into the Tillsonburg Sports Hall of Fame on Monday.
TILLSONBURG - Three new names will be added to the Tillsonburg Sports Hall of Fame.
The induction ceremony for Jeff Bes, Lloyd Andrews, and Dan Sanders will be taking place on Monday May 6th.
Bes won the gold medal at the World Juniors back in 1993 and he went on to play for the OHL, where he was an All-Star in 1992/1993. He eventually moved on to the CHL, where he won two championships with the Laredo Bucks in 2004 and 2006.
Off the ice, Bes has served as the President and General Manager of several professional hockey teams. He's now the Director of Hockey Operations for the Evansville Thunderbolts.
Andrews, also known as "Shrimp" due to his height of 5'4", was the first known player from Tillsoburg to play in the NHL. He signed with the Toronto St. Pats in 1921 and won the Stanley Cup in 1922. He went on to play with the AHL and the CHL afterward.
Andrews passed away in Detroit on November 17th, 1974.
Sanders is being inducted in the Builder category due to his efforts off the ice.
He was the President of the Tillsonburg Maroons Senior Intermediate B team in the 1980s. He also served as the founder, owner, and president of the Tillsonburg Vipers AAA hockey team in 2001. The Vipers won the AA Championship for the 2014/2015 season, and the A Championship for the 2015/2026 season.
Those interested in attending the induction ceremony at the Tillsonburg Community Centre can purchase a ticket for $45 by sending an e-mail to aquatics@tillsonburg.ca. There will be a cocktail hour at 5:30 p.m. and a dinner served at 6:30 p.m. before the ceremony begins at 7:00 p.m.
