LED lights will be installed in every streetlight in the city over the next 2 years.
WOODSTOCK - The city of Woodstock has pushed up the timeline to install LED lights at all of the streetlights in the city. Originally the plan was to have the lights changed within three years.
Mayor Trevor Birtch tells Heart FM council has agreed to push up the dates and the hope now is the lights will be done within two years.
He adds it will likely cost the City about $3 million dollars to make the switch to LED lights in Woodstock.
However with a government grant and the energy savings with making the switch they anticipate getting a return on their investment within 5 years.
Birtch adds the LED lights last twice as long as the traditional ones and should save the city an average of $500,000 to 600,000 a year on energy savings.
