The Woodstock branch officially kicked off their Sweat for Strong Kids fundraising event
Local dignitaries took to the stationary bicycles Friday morning to kick off YMCA's Sweat for Strong Kids event.
The event, which runs April 5, will see 75 teams cycling in the parking lot of Your Neighbourhood Credit Union Woodstock April 5.
General Manager of the Woodstock YMCA Family Andrea Nelson says the goal is to raise $100,000 between Woodstock, Windsor, St Thomas and London.
"Money is going to go to those who cannot afford a full fee membership at the Y, so we have an assisted program, depending on income level, for those that cannot afford the full fee, we want to get them involved, so we turn no body away. Everybody has an opportunity to be a part of the YMCA membership."
"There will be five 45 minute cycling class happening, in this community, it will be in the parking lot of Your Neighbourhood Credit Union with roughly 75 participants raising money for Strong Kids."
Branch Manager at Your Neighbourhood Credit Union Woodstock, Steve McGregor says the partnership with YMCA was a no brainer.
"This is a great cause too, it's great for the YMCA as well as us corporately, but there's more of a personal level for me. I've been a member here at the Y for 15 years and I've seen what kind of effect it has on the kids that are here so it's really business and personal for me."
Locals are being encouraged to register early with the hope of raising a minimum of $100.
