A devastating fire at the Prikken Dairy Farm in Elgin County caused over $1.5 million in damage.
SOUTHWOLD TOWNSHIP - A massive blaze has killed nearly 100 cows at a Dairy farm in Talbotville in Elgin County.
OPP and Firefighters responded to the fire around 7:50 this morning at the Prikken Dairy Farm on Sunset Drive. At least 100 head of cattle were the barn at the time of the blaze and only 10 or 15 managed to escape.
Preliminary estimates on the damage and loss of the this fire is roughly $1.5 million. Southwold and Central Elgin Fire Departments are still at the scene putting out hot spots. The fire is under control, however the barn contained a large amount of hay which is tough to extinguish.
The Ontario Fire Marshals Office has been contacted and the investigation into the cause is ongoing.
