The Fat Willies will be playing a benefit concert at the Ayr Community Centre to help bring a big event to the Village next year.
AYR - Something big is coming to the Village of Ayr for the Summer of 17.
A group of community volunteers are planning a huge community BBQ for June 17th next year with all the benefits going to Kidsability. Volunteer Chris Dietrich tells Heart FM how this whole charity BBQ idea came to fruition.
"A couple of years ago, my wife and I were sitting around talking one night, our son was born with hypotonia and we wanted to give back to Kidsability in some way or form. In Ayr, we don't have a community event anymore in the Spring and we used to have a charity BBQ and we wanted to build on the past success of that BBQ event and give back to a local charity each year."
Ayr used to have a huge pig roast for years, but there has been nothing in the tiny Village for quite some time now. Dietrich says they are hoping to make next years event be apart of a National BBQ competition.
"What we're planning to do is have the Canadian National Bacon Championships in Ayr, it will be a amateur event and we are in the planning stages of having it fully registered. So what will happen is amateur BBQ enthusiasts will be able to come to our BBQ competition and the winner will hopefully be given a ticket to the World Food Championships which is held in Las Vegas and televised by the Food Network. We will also have some form of prize money and big trophy, we will also have entertainment for the kids, live music, a very popular band here in Ayr, The Fat Willies will play a concert during the evening at Victoria Park.
To help raise funds and get the ball rolling they are hosting a benefit concert Featuring the Fat Willies on September 10th at the Ayr Community Centre starting at 8 pm. The Fat Willies are a local band who play some amazing covers and are known for playing crowd pleasing hits. They have opened up the main floor of the ACC for the concert and are hoping for a big turnout. 400 tickets are available for this licensed event and you can get yours through the Ayr Charity BBQ Community Facebook page or by emailing Chris at chrisdietrich007@gmail.com.
Tickets cost $10 in advance and $15 dollars at the door.
