A new organization based out of Ingersoll has been formed to help tackle the sensitive issue of child pornography.
Child Pornography Hurts has the mandate of helping victims become survivors... fighting to end child pornography.
Founder and Chair Charlene Doak Gebauer tells Heart FM people often forget the victims of this heinous crimes can be right here in our own backyard.
Just this month a 41 year old Woodstock man James Hiiuvain was charged with accessing and possession of child pornography.
Gebauer knows this first hand as her niece was the victim of child pornography when she was only 4 years old and the abuser was a neighbour.
Her organization is working hard to spread the message and get people talking about the subject and they will eventually offer specialized therapy for victims.
Right now they are trying to raise awareness and Gebauer is doing several speaking engagements in the area.
She will be making a presentation in London on Friday at 7 p.m. on the subject at the Salvation Army Citadel.
The organization is still in the beginning stages and has already received some federal funding.
Gebauer says they will be working with therapists to get victims the help they need.
