It's a frigid start to the Family Day weekend as it's predicted to reach -22 °C overnight, and it will only feel worse with the windchill
Oxford County has issued a cold weather alert.
The temperature will drop to -22 °C overnight, but once you factor in the windchill it will feel more like -30°C. Those frigid temperatures are expected to stay with us into the weekend before we surge back up to around -1°C on Monday.
During cold weather alerts residents are asked to protect themselves from the cold and related problems like frostbite and hypothermia.
Older adults, young children, outdoor workers, and homeless people are at a significant risk. Pet owners are also asked to keep an eye on animals and reduce outdoor exposure when possible.
Inn Out of the Cold offers shelter to homeless adults between 7 p.m. and 7:30 a.m. It operates out of Old Saint Paul's Anglican Church on Dundas Street in Woodstock. They can be contacted through Operation Sharing at 519-539-3361.
An extreme cold weather alert is in effect for Oxford, Brant, Norfolk, Middlesex, and Perth.
