About 20 to 24 firefighters responded to a vacant house fire on North Street East in Tillsonburg earlier this morning. No injuries have been reported.
TILLSONBURG - No one was hurt after a fire broke out in a vacant house in Tillsonburg.
Fire Chief Shane Caskanette says they were called out to the fire at 56 North Street East at around 3:00 a.m. today
"On arrival, there was heavy fire conditions in the building. It was fully engulfed on the first and second floors, it was like a walkout. Fire crews initiated defensive operations, so we fought it from the outside because of structural integrity and the depth of fire."
He says about 20 to 24 firefighters were on scene and they were able to have the blaze under control in about an hour or so. He adds crews will remain on scene for another hour or so.
The investigation is still ongoing at this time, so the exact cause and the damage estimate have yet to be determined.
Caskanette would like to remind all homeowners out there to check their smoke alarms and to make they are replaced every 10 years.
