Big Brothers Big Sisters of Ingersoll, Tillsonburg and area have one more Curl for Kid's Sake coming up.
If you missed the Curl for Kid's Sake in Tillsonburg this weekend, there is still one more chance to get in on the fun.
Resource Coordinator Heather Brekelmans says the Tillsonburg event was a little smaller than they were hoping. "It was a smaller crowd than in previous years. It just seems like that particular day everybody had stuff on. But we still had some very dedicated teams that came out again this year. This coming Saturday as well we'll be following up with another full draw in Ingersoll it tends to be - each year is a little big different - this year looks like it will be bigger than last year, so that will be exciting."
There is still time to sign up for the upcoming Ingersoll Curl for Kid's Sake. Brekelmans says it is a lot of fun, even if you are not a skilled curler. They have a bit of fun with the curlers as well - anyone who does not get their rock passed the hog line will get to carry the Big Brothers Big Sisters pig around. "Every year we have Miss Piggy who gets a different outfit," Brekelmans says. "So this year she is dressed like a party goer who goes to the Mardi Gras parade. And there's a black line called the hog line when you curl, and you have to get your rock passed the hog line and it's about three quarters of the way down the ice. She gets around quite a bit around the ice and hops from sheets to sheet on the ice. She faired pretty well, but it all decorated out to go off this weekend." Brekelmans says the pig makes its way around the ice, with even the experienced players taking a turn with Miss Piggy.
The day includes two games, lunch, and door prizes, as well as a cash bar. Brekelmans says it tends to be a lot of fun, but the funds raised help other people have fun as well. "Our events typically go to fund our programs. So in particular right now we're still working on filling in in-school mentoring spots. So we do sort of tend to direct the funds more towards what we're working on at this particular time. So In School Mentoring is pretty big right now between now and the end of June. And then we also do quite a bit with our Big Brothers, Big Sisters at this time of year as well."
