Foodland in Woodstock with Sobey's corporate presented the Operation Sharing Food for Friends Program with a big cheque today.
WOODSTOCK - The Foodland grocery store and Sobey's Corporate handed over a big cheque today to the Operation Sharing Food for Friends program.
Every thanksgiving the grocery chains match any donations made by customers who donate a quarter to the program. This year they raised $6,945. Owner of the Foodland Chris Chapman tells Heart FM they are proud to support the Food for Friends program and you can donate a quarter to Food For Friends every time you visit the grocery store.
"Every penny that is collected is used to fund Food for Friends gift cards so the disadvantaged in our community can select natural food selections, good food selections, nothing taxable that allow them to select good food for them to create a meal at home."
Executive Director of Operation Sharing Stephen Giuliano says it has been a great partnership with both stores over the past 6 years.
"We are just thrilled that this has been ongoing relationship with both Sobey's and Foodland for this quarter matching drive that they do every Thanksgiving that they do annually for us for the past six years, it shows not only that they are dedicated but just how much they respect the work we are doing and the dignity we are providing people to allow them to shop for themselves as opposed to visiting a food bank."
This is the sixth year in a row they have done the matching program during the busy thanksgiving season and every dollar raised goes back into the community.
