After 20 years and around 120 productions, the founders of CAST are ready for their final bows.
WOODSTOCK - After 20 years and 120 productions the founders of the CAST youth theatre company are retiring.
Jennifer and Jason Paquette started the program for their own kids, who are now adults and feel now is the time to step away from the theatre. Jennifer tells Heart FM about some her favourite shows over the past 20 years.
"I loved our black light productions that were put together by Joanna Sweete. For myself personally, our very first senior production was Into The Woods and so that was kind of a special thing and it was the first time we worked with a full orchestra."
Jason says he can't think of any one show that would be a favourite either.
"My favourites are any shows with a lot of cheese in them (laughter). I love cheesy shows."
We asked both of them to share some of their favourite moments over the past 20 years. Jason recalled one funny moment in particular:
"All the times when I was working with the kids and they would say something that would make me laugh for 2 to 3 days afterwards, including the time where a kid came up to me and out of nowhere told me she had closed her head in the fridge door."
Jennifer also offered up some of her favourite memories.
"My favourite moments were not even necessarily the theatrical ones; it was those moments where you saw the light go on for a kid, either that they had felt seen or they had learned something or had made a connection - those are my favourite moments."
The couple really wanted to thank the community for all of their support over the years. They will still be directing a few more shows in the Spring and it is possible CAST will continue if some new leadership steps up to the plate.
