Police have charged a hockey player with assault after another player suffered serious injuries when he was hit in the head with a hockey stick.
DORCHESTER - A hockey player from Thames Centre has been charged with assault after an altercation on the ice in Dorchester.
Police were called to the arena on Valentines Day after a men's league game turned nasty. According to the OPP a 36 year old man hit another player in the game over the head with his hockey stick.
The victim was taken to the hospital with serious non life threatening injuries. Police say an investigation revealed the player swung his stick at the victim, intentionally, with force and unrelated to the play.
Jason Ashton, from Thames Centre, Ontario, has been charged with assault with a weapon, and assault causing bodily harm, contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada.
