It's big money into research and development, but will it help them down the road? That's the question being asked by CAW workers in Ingersoll after GM's big funding announcement Tuesday. GM is spending 850-million dollars on research and development at its Oshawa facilities. But CAW Local 88 President Dan Borthwick says there's no assurances that research will be put to practice at Canadian factories. "Hopefully this translates into more product in our facilities in Canada and secures the future of jobs that we have here in Canada." The research fund was GM's part of the bargain when the governments bailed them out in 2009. The CAW released a statement on Tuesday, saying there's no guarantee that new vehicles arising from that research will be made in Canada.
