Jim Magee's portrait will be hanging in the Oxford County Administrative building as the 15th inductee into the Agricultural Hall of Fame.
OXFORD COUNTY - A local resident has been named to the Oxford County Agricultural Hall of Fame.
James 'Jim' Magee is the 15th inductee into the Hall of Fame. President of the Oxford County Federation of Agriculture Joe Wilson presented Magee with his framed portrait that will hang on the wall in the Oxford County Administrative building.
Magee first learned of his induction at the Agricultural Awards of Excellence. Magee said the induction came as a surprise, "Well I was very shocked, I certainly wasn't expecting something like this. I was at the annual banquet that evening and when they announced that I was the award recipient I was both very pleased and very honoured."
Magee has spent over 30 years in the agriculture industry including a stint as the Director and President of the Ontario Cattleman's Association. Today Magee is the Director-at-Large for the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters. Magee describes himself as a 'farm politician' having served on provincial and national organizations. There is one message Magee wants to tell young people:
"I think young people really need to get out and speak out and tell the story on agriculture and tell how modern farming is done, they (farmers) are very much under attack and most people today are so far removed from farms especially in big urban centres," said McGee.
