The Oxford County Junior Farmers celebrated the 10th anniversary of the Embro Truck and Tractor Pull in Style
Members of the Oxford County Junior Farmers got a chance to visit the biggest indoor farm show in North America.
The trip to the National Farm Machinery Show in Louisville Kentucky was done to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Embro Truck and Tractor Pull which is put on by the Junior Farmers. Member Drew De Bruyn tells Heart FM they got to learn a lot about different crops and techniques that aren't common in Ontario, including burley tobacco, peanuts, cotton and pivot irrigation.
"Walking through the building, a lot of us went through the big Ag booth, like John Deere, Monsanto, Precision Ag and we learned about the new and out coming machines and projects that these companies have."
De Bruyn says the highlight of the trip was the indoor tractor pull on Friday night. He adds everyone had an amazing time and talks about the discussion they had on the way home.
"The take home was that agriculture is not doing as well as it has in the past in the States and in North America in general, grain prices are lower and they said that the attendance at the Farm Show was down from years past and that just kind of shows how the markets are doing. This trip had been talked about and dreamt of for a few years, but became a reality this year as an excuse to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Embro Truck and Tractor Pull. Not everyone on the trip knew each other when we left, but on our drive we had lots of time to catch up on the farming news and get to know one another."
