A week of hard labour has earned 10 local kids a new bike for the rest of the summer...and beyond. The 10 kids were presented with their new bikes today through the Tim Horton's "Earn a Bike" program. The program is run in Woodstock with the help of Woodstock Police who take the kids out and put them to work. Constable Steve McEwen explains, "We get the kids out doing some work around their community, and hopefully instill a little pride. They're growing up here and we want to instill that volunteering isn't even that hard." 10-year-old Sam thought it WAS hard work. "It was like walking on hot rocks, because it was a hot and sweaty day, and it was tiring." But at the end of the week, 9-year-old Nicholas said a few hours of painting and pulling weeds was worth the effort. "The bike, is brand new...it's awesome!" One of the Tim Horton's Owners in Woodstock Jason Paquette says it's a great initiative. "I think it's great, because you get kids helping their community and being rewarded for it. And now just rewarded with a thank you, but being rewarded with something they can use and have fun with." Tim Horton's provides the bikes, helmets and a lock. They also received a certificate, and a handshake from Tim Horton's Owners, and Police Chief Rod Freeman.
