A local woman is the first runner up in the CNE Ambassador Competition.
The first runner up in the CNE Ambassador of the Fairs Competition is from Oxford County!
Embro's very own Kayla Veldman placed second in the annual competition, which had almost 80 people competing.
Veldman says the first runner up is an understudy for the CNE Ambassador.
"The only role that I would have is if something were to happen - say the CNE Ambassador got very sick or something like that - then I would have to step in."
Each year the CNE Ambassador gets to travel around to the different fairs across Ontario in order to help educate the public about agriculture. It's also the ambassador's job to bridge the gaps between rural and urban communities.
Veldman says she has a passion for agriculture.
"I'm just going into 4th year at the University of Guelph for Bachelor of Science and Agriculture so future plans revolve around agriculture."
After graduating Veldman hopes to start a career in agronomy, so she can help farmers make decisions with their fields.
