Tour focuses on job creation, sustainability and local food.
TILLSONBURG -- With parliament taking a break this week, Opposition Leader Tom Mulcair is continuing his tour of southwestern Ontario which included a stop in Tillsonburg this morning.
Mulcair toured Erie Structures Greenhouse plant, located on Highway 3. Erie Structures builds several different types of Greenhouses while also working with farmers in the area to install some of the latest modern generation greenhouses which Mulcair called the right kinds of industry the government should be investing in.
"They're doing incredible work, they're capturing the Co2 from the natural gas their using and using it in their greenhouses. They're using a technique they've developed to reduce the loss of heat, recycling that heat at night and capturing it for storage during the day, it's quite something and exactly the kind of thing the government could create jobs with across Canada."
Mulcair also spent part of the day in London, discussing seniors' poverty issues. His NDP tour of the region is putting a focus on jobs, sustainability and local food production.
"We strongly believe there's a common sense role for government in helping jobs get created. We're talking to Canadians about that in the region right now."
Mulcair says the country has lost a generation of good paying manufacturing jobs and feels the government isn't doing what's necessary to create the next generation of good paying jobs in our region.
Wednesday evening will see Mulcair touching on more affordability issues during a stop in Amherstburg, ON.
