The former Trinity School on Blandford Street in the Town of Innerkip is being transformed into a commercial building to house services.
OXFORD COUNTY - Kevlar Development Group is behind a new sustainable development project in Innerkip.
They're transforming the former Trinity School on Blandford Street into a commercial building to house services and they're doing it in a way that is ecologically friendly.
Owners Laura and Kevin Murphy have been deconstructing the school and they're aiming to finish the renovations and rental units by 2021.
Laura Murphy says it'll have different services for everybody.
“We want to bring something to the area that will help everyone. We'd like to create a space for insurance companies, financial advisors, and pharmacists. Things that everyone needs.”
KDG is a development company that Laura and Kevin started eight years ago and they develop infrastructure to bring necessary services into growing local communities.
They started the demolition process earlier this year with the goal of starting construction by late spring or early summer.
Their goal for the demolition was to reduce the amount of the materials sent to the landfill as more than 22,000 lbs of metal were recycled. They donated all glass and windows to use for farm buildings and all wires, lights, and electrical panels were recycled as well.
They also recycled as much metal as possible, including duct work, the metal roof, and metal beams. And the concrete from the building will be crushed and reused as the base for the parking lot.
It is a 8,000 square foot building and it'll feature units ranging between 1,200 – 1,400 square feet for new and expanded businesses and they'll be available to rent in 2021.
