Nitrate levels are down at the Thornton Wellfield
OXFORD COUNTY - A researcher from the University of Waterloo has updated Oxford County Council on the status of the nitrate levels in the Thornton Wellfield.
Warden David Mayberry says the nitrate levels in the wellfield have been high in the past but they are now declining.
"We've been very successful in all of the wells having rate reductions of nitrates which is good news for Woodstock! Yes, they are well below the acceptable level, but they are heading down which is a good thing."
The Thornton Wellfield provides drinking water for 80-90% of residents in Woodstock.
Mayberry tells Heart FM they will continue monitoring in the coming years.
"I think we'll probably continue to follow it on - sort of a year by year testing to make sure the nitrate levels continue to decline. If they don't, then to make sure we understand what happened - If we don't have the kind of decline we want, why don't we have that?"
