In a 3-2 vote, Jim Northcott is the Acting Mayor of Woodstock for 2012. Northcott was nominated, along with councillor Ron Fraser, who held the position last year. Northcott, a real estate agent, says he hopes he can fill in at functions when Mayor Pat Sobeski is away. "I'm very fortunate, I'm in a position during the day that I can take time to attend events. That's one of the biggest things. I have the time, I can fill in. I can go out and I love to promote the City of Woodstock." Northcott's appointment was one a many small decisions approved by city council last night that include: -Microtel, at long last, will get to put up a sign to help it compete with the Norwich Ave. hotels off the 401. After council shot down the notion of putting up a 10-meter sign last year, citing neighbours concerns, the compromise is an 8-meter sign on the north side of the property. -Woodingford Lodge has been included in the city's Parking By-law, which means tickets will start coming to those who are parking at Woodinford and walking over to the new hospital, to avoid paying 4-bucks. -You can now rent out room at the New Art Gallery. A policy and fee schedule was approved that will be appearing on the city's website.
