He ran for the Ontario Party in the 2022 provincial election, and now he wants to be the next Ward 1 councillor for Norwich Township.
NORWICH TOWNSHIP - Ward 1 in the Township of Norwich is looking for its next councilor.
A by-election will be taking place and Karl Toews has put his name forward. He is a criminal lawyer, and he was Oxford County's Ontario Party candidate in the 2022 provincial election, where he finished in fourth place with over 3,500 votes.
Toews is from the Burgessville area so he technically doesn't live in Ward 1, but thinks his knowledge of the Township will serve well if elected. Toews mentions that not living in Ward 1 might put a hindrance on who votes for him, but wants residents to do their homework.
"I would just ask everyone to look at all three candidates in a holistic way, and we all have our strengths and weaknesses, and on balance which candidate do you think has the most to bring to the table."
He has many items on his platform for running, and recruiting and retaining doctors for the Township is high on his priority list. He talks about something he would want to be implemented.
"I would like to see a scholarship established for a local student to come through Med School. Once they become a doctor, there would be an obligation to at least spend part of their career living and practicing in Norwich."
You can find more information regarding his campaign online here.
Ward 1 covers the southern portion of Norwich Township including the communities of Otterville and Springford.
The by-election will take place Monday, May 6th.
