Some of the best high school basketball players in Ontario will be in Woodstock this weekend.
WOODSTOCK - The Oxford Attack under 16 boys team will be hosting an Ontario Basketball Association basketball tournament this coming weekend.
Teams from across Ontario will be making the trip to Woodstock to play in the tournament, even as far away as Prince Edward County. A host hotel is lined up for the teams as well as a host restaurant for the visiting teams, so the tournament is good for the city of Woodstock. Attack Coach Paul Cowan says that playing on home court can give his team an advantage but it can also be a disadvantage.
"I definitely hope playing on home court helps us. I do think it hurts us in a way because there is more pressure. This is our flagship home tournament for the year so, you know, from experience from my girls tournament in January, the coach feels pressure and the players feel pressure."
Cowan says the goal for his team is to put themselves in a place to compete for a medal.
This is the second tournament held in Woodstock this year. The last tournament was an under 14 girls tournament held in January, also hosted by the Oxford Attack Basketball Club. Oxford's first game is happening on Friday night at 6 p.m. and all the games at taking place in the St. Mary's gym. They also play twice on Saturday at 9 a.m and again at 4:30 p.m.
