OCL to Honour Oxford Local History Day this Saturday

The Oxford County Library will livestream special presentations over Facebook and YouTube this Saturday in honour of Oxford Local History Day.

OXFORD COUNTY - The Oxford County Library has several guest speakers lined up to celebrate Oxford Local History Day this Saturday.

They will be hosting a free virtual seminar that will run throughout the entire day. Digital and Local History Technician Vicki Brenner says they will have new speakers every half hour, starting at 10:00 a.m.

"We have reached out to heritage groups across the County, to put a spotlight on their community and the people who have historical significance there."

Brenner says highlights include an author chat with Thomas Crawl about Oxford County’s lady swindler and stories of the Heroes of Zorra.

"We also have Oxford County Archives who will talk about the Zorra Townships tug of war team and the Thamesford Mill. Plattsville Heritage are sharing histories of hamlets in that area and Tavistock will be sharing treasures from their archives and Museums."

Some of the other highlights include a tour of Ingersoll Rural Cemetery, and places in Tillsonburg from Annandale National Historic Site & Museum.

Brenner says it promises to be a fun and informative day.

“We are excited to highlight the rich history of Oxford County on Oxford Local History Day and every other day with the vast collection of books at our branches that tell the stories of the people and places of our past.”

The presentations will be live streamed all day on Facebook and then posted on the OCL YouTube page. You can find more information online here
