TILLSONBURG - An Olympic Athlete has returned from Rio after making his home town of Tillsonburg proud.
Evan Van Morekerke competed in the men's 4x100 metre freestyle relay. In the end, the team finished off in seventh place.
Van Morekerke admits going into the preliminary rounds he felt nervous, but after a fantastic effort from the whole team the nerves settled a bit in time for the finals.
"We were going into that final heat just knowing that whatever happens, happens. We'd already accomplished what we came to do."
There's no rest for Van Morekerke as he gets ready to go back to swimming with the University of Guelph where he studies Agriculture Science and Crop Science.
"I think I'll have another week and a half off and then I'll be right back into it once school starts at the beginning of September here."
When it comes to Tokyo 2020, he says it's just too soon to tell yet.
"Right now I'm on a year to year basis. I'm going to go back, swim my last year at school, and then kind of see where my life takes me. It's really difficult for me to commit to four years because I don't know where I'll be in four years."
