Ontario Works Cheques will not be mailed out in Oxford County during the month of September.
Oxford County has announced that Ontario Works cheques will be available for in person pick up only during the month of September.
The announcement comes as pending job actions from Canada Post mean the cheques might not be mailed out next month. Manager of Human Services Lynn Chenier tells Heart FM this will only impact people who receive their Ontario Works Payment by cheque.
"CUP-W has announced that they will start job actions on Monday, so just in order to prevent any delays in people receiving assistance we have opted to hold all of the cheques for clients to pick up on August 31st. We are going to mail our direct deposit statements and drug cards, so they will go out in the mail and hopefully they will arrive on time but for the cheques we wanted to make sure people had their money to pay their rent and buy food for the 1st of the month without any delays."
Oxford County is starting the in person pick up now to avoid the possibility that Ontario Works payments could be delayed because of a possible job action.
