Provincial Police will be hosting some public information sessions at En Routes outside of Woodstock in hopes to reduce commercial vehicle incidents involving wheel separations.
WOODSTOCK - Oxford OPP, the West Region Highway Safety Division and the Ministry of Transportation will be hosting public information sessions at the En Routes outside of Woodstock next week.
They will be providing information designed to help reduce commercial vehicle incidents involving wheel separations and to implement safe driving strategies. The goal is to reduce collisions and to ensure CMV's are adequately equipped.
The sessions come just one week after a transport collision caused the closure of the 401 East Bound lanes for over 7 hours on Wednesday. However Constable Lisa Narancskik tells Heart FM they actually started planning this before that crash.
"It actually was in the plans before that, if you remember back in November we had an incident involving a wheel separation from a commercial motor vehicle and unfortunately with that incident, we did lose a life and we had two other cases recently involving wheel separations on Oxford County patrolled portions of the Highway, so that was kind of the ball that started this initiative".
This educational experience is an opportunity for CMV operators and others who share the highway to speak with officials in open and transparent dialogue related to safety concerns and requirements under the Highway Traffic Act.
Event Time & Location:
9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m., Tuesday, February 16, 2016 – Hwy. 401 Eastbound between Exit 222 and 230.
9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m., Thursday, February 18, 2016 – Hwy. 401 Westbound between Exit 230 and 222.
