Oxford County Library is celebrating after gaining accreditation from the Ontario Library Association.
OXFORD COUNTY - Oxford County Library has been recognized for an exceptional level of service.
CEO and Chief Librarian for Oxford County Library Lisa Miettinen says they were given the Certificate of Accreditation at the Ontario Library Association Awards Gala last week. "And we were fortunate to be able to have all 14 of our branches accredited as well. Which is really quite wonderful. It also gives us a blueprint for how we can move forward to improve the facilities and our services."
Miettinen says the libraries can be very proud of the work they have done. "I believe overall our system obtained 99.6%. All branches obtained at least 80%, some branches were into the high 90's."
Even with such a high score, the accreditation also pinpointed areas where the libraries can continue to improve. "Certainly accessibility is an issue. We do have a couple of locations where the facility is not fully accessible. We also realized that in some branches the books are really too high for comfortable reach for anyone in a wheelchair or a scooter."
The accreditation stands for five years before they will need to be assessed again.
